Kornati National Park
Kornati National Park,a special and in many ways particular group of islands,is located in the central part of the Croatian Adriatic, in the Zadar and Šibenik island area.
With 35 km in length and 140 islands, some large, some small, in a sea area of about 320 km2, Kornati are the densest archipelago in the Mediterranean Sea.
The largest island is Kornat from which the archipelago takes its name. Other larger islands are: Piskera, Kurba Vela, Zut, Sit , Levrnaka...
Due to their exceptionally beautiful landscape and interesting geomorphology, great indentedness of the coastline and especially rich biocenesis of the sea ecosystem most of the Kornati islands were declared a national park in 1980.
Today Park extends over a surface area of 220 km2 and includes 89 islands, islets and reefs with almost 238 km of coastline.
There are no permanent settlements in Kornati. Simple houses in well-protected coves such as Vruje, Kravjačica, Lavsa and others are used by land owners as temporary shelters.
Please be aware of the fact that the land section of the Park is privately owned.Most of the land owners are from the island of Murter and Dugi Otok.
So, please, behave as a good and considerate guest when passing through the privately owned area!
