Romantic European Vacations
The French Riviera, with its azure Mediterranean waters and cobalt blue skies, is perfect for romantic getaways. The weather in the French Riviera has a mild Mediterranean climate. It’s neither cold in the winter neither too hot in the summer. Although cold winter winds (The Mistral) can blow through the Riviera in the winter, the mountains by the coast mostly protect the harbor towns. Summer is warm and sunny, with the average temperature on the edge of 80 degrees.
The highlights of the French Riviera are the picturesque seaside towns of the Mediterranean. There is a plethora of shops and restaurants set into picturesque buildings next to beautiful beaches.
Saint-Tropez is famous as the setting for the film "And God created Woman" starring Brigitte Bardot. Ever since then Saint Tropez has become very trendy and a favorite of the jet set. For a magnificent sandy beach head about 4 km south east of the town. Plage de Tahiti and its continuation Plage de Pampelonne runs about 9 km between Camp du Pinet and the rocky Cap Camarat (on the south side of which is a secluded nudist beach). For a romantic walk take the Sentier Littoral (coastal path) which goes all the way from Saint Tropez south to the Beach Cavalaire along some 35 km of splendid rocky outcrops and hidden bays.
Cassis is known for its cliffs dropping into the ocean and sheltered inlets, this charming port town is a great place to stop along France’s Mediterranean coast. An intimate resort town, Cassis has pastel colored buildings, scenic cliffs, a beautiful beach and excellent local wines that make this seaside town a must-see on the Cote d’Azur.
Nice has diverse shopping, splendid dining and lovely art-deco façades. Everyone you meet will tell you what a nice time they are having and soon you too will be referring to all the nice things in Nice.
For romantic moments take a walk down the Promenade des Anglais at sunset, it's a famous street that travels along Nice's Mediterranean waterfront. Another great idea for is taking a hike up to the waterfall by the Chateau and enjoying the splendid views or browsing the antique market or the flower market in Old Nice. For those into art and, a visit to the Musee Chagall and Musee Matisse are a definite must. Despite the fact that most of the beaches consist of stones taking a swim in the azure Mediterranean waters is still very popular. If you are thinking about stealing a few quiet moments head to lush greenery and elegant statuary of the Eze Garden. Le Jardin d'Eze is bit out of Nice, a garden of tropical plants on the crest of the hill that dominates Eze. It offers some amazing views of the Mediterranean.
Cannes, synonymous with glitz and glamor, is famous for its influential international film festival. The best laces for walks are not far from the water. Stroll on the pine and palm shaded walkway along Blvd de la Croisette or in the winding narrow streets of Old Town. Also worth a visit - the two islands in the bay off the coast.
